Hi friends,
I’m excited to tell you about an author who got a book deal! Loren Girimonte credits this here newsletter with helping her get that deal! Huzzah!
She kindly answered a few questions and I’m excited to share them with you here.
1.How did you learn about Agents and Books? What prompted you to sign up?
Dana Murphy, an agent that I follow and enjoy, tweeted about the Agents and Books newsletter. I was instantly attracted to Kate’s straightforward and practical advice for getting a book deal.
2. What's one surprising thing you learned about from the newsletter?
Book deals are unique. There are lots of different ways to approach selling a book. In my case, I did not have a background or a network in the publishing industry. I work full-time in tech. I was encouraged that great book ideas can come from anywhere!
3. What's been the most helpful advice you've learned from Agents and Books?
How to pitch a book. Specifically, how to write a query letter that hooks the reader. I used Kate’s advice to include a X for Y example which creates familiarity for the reader. It worked. My editor told me he immediately understood my vision.
4. Has your experience been different than anything you've read about here?
Kate, it’s been even better than I ever hoped for. Publishing a book is a dream come true for me. I hope I can be an inspiration to your readers that first time authors without a publishing background can break through with a great idea!
5. Now that you have a book deal, what are you hoping I'll cover more?
I would love to hear more about your experience marketing books. Is there anything I should be doing to prepare for my book launch?
[ed.: you betcha!]
6. Congrats on your book deal! Tell everyone what it's about!
Thank you so much for everything Kate! I feel like you are part of my book team! Your newsletter gave me the confidence to act on my book idea.
