Concussions, no matter the severity, take their toll. I got one when the side of a surfboard hit my head. I was out of it for a few days. The first day, not responding to anything properly and wandering around with a lost look on my face (I didn’t know I had concussion, I just thought I had a terrible headache from the surfboard and so I drove to work the next day-thankfully it was only a five minute drive). It was when a coworker asked me if I was ok and I told them what happened that they were like “you idiot, you’ve probably got a mild concussion. You should be at home.) Ops!

Glad you’re on the mend. Take care of yourself 🤗.

Oh my goodness, Kate! Relieved to read you are okay. My mom always says, "you never know from one minute to the next," and it's so true. Thanks for sharing all this. As someone who does live with a chronic illness, I also really struggle with the concept of rest and this sentence of yours -- "The universe is going to do what it’s going to do—and all you can do make sure you’re taking care of yourself the best you can." -- really spoke to me. Take care.

I’m not giving up on non-stop productivity. REST got added to my action item list many years ago. If I’m leaning toward procrastinating on that item, my mantra is “Rest is the most important task for me to do right now.” 😉

Kate, I missed this somehow! That's so scary--I'm glad you're on the mend. We need your brain! Damn trees.

Omg Kate! Hope you’re okay! That is wild. A branch! My witchy friend would say sometimes life donks us on the head to remind us the rest. Sending you lots of love 🫶🫶

I’ve learned to rest and not measure my worth based on my productivity too! Only took me four years being depressed followed by another four years of LongCovid… Take care …

Kate, you still have your sense of humor, so you must be OK. I’m glad it wasn’t worse. Please follow your own advice and take care of yourself.

Oh my! I'm so glad you're OK, how crazy is that. I can one million percent relate to your feeling guilty around not being productive! I'm glad you took some much needed (and deserved) rest, thanks for setting a good example for us all!

Oh wow but also, glad you're on the mend and the branch didn't knock the humor out of you ;-)

Did you ever hear of Clifton strength?

It was a big revelation to me, especially with those questions about feeling 'you have to be productive.'

For ex I'm a Nr7 achiever (which makes no sense now but bear with me) so I have to make lists to feel better. Only a ticked item is a good item (beside the fact three more will fill up after ;-)

The very (very) short version would be: now you have to heal and rest, you have to put exactly this on your list.

1. nap

2. take a long shower

3. rest

4. work just a bit

5. nap

you get the idea.

Wishing you loads of healing vibes!!

Ouch, Kate~~~So sorry...I do feel for you. On Saturday, I tripped running through my garden, yelling "Shoo" to a tribe of hungry, root-devouring squirrels. I slammed my forehead on a cement post. Went right to the Emergency Room. I have stitches on my forehead, two black eyes, scraped knees, and a dislocated shoulder. My writing partner said now I should have time to work on the perfect query for my novel. Let's see about that. My son told me that I have to rest now, but who will shoo the squirrels (water the garden, do the laundry, and do all the other things that a writer does when not writing)? My eyes are crossed that you will feel better soon with no lasting issues. xoxo Kevin
