I'm so late to this party, but this did help take off the stress of making an author website. I think I will make a blog because I have no internet presence.
I love the all-inclusiveness of squarespace-- no plugins/coding or separate hosting like I used to have to mess with on wordpress! Which Squarespace design do you use (or is it custom)?
OMG what good timing. I watched a 2 hour video today that informed me everything I've already done for my website is wrong. I'm going to ignore it all and get back to writing my damn book! Thank you.
Visited an author's website and social media just now, because she has a new release coming out in February (I think). However, I only know that because I regularly check Amazon (sorry) to see if authors have anything new coming in the next year. Unfortunately, her website (WordPress) lists only her first two books (and not her upcoming third), and her Twitter hasn't been updated since 2018, and those were mostly RTs.
As a reader, I definitely think authors should have some kind of email-list. Unfortunately, I think authors have to pay for those services. But it really is the best way for readers to keep up with authors, especially if we don't read social media. I check my email several times a day. Not so other sites (except for my Twitter Mentions).
Since WordPress changed its Classic version (still available when editing, but not creating), it's been...difficult. Basically fine, but the other day I suddenly decided to write a review and include images, which messed up the formatting and I couldn't get it to look like the other posts on my blog, so I gave up. Still posted the review, but it has a white background and different font, and...ach!
I love designing for authors if someone doesn't want to do it themselves. I have some samples here: chrisdaley.com/web-design

I use the York template, right out of the box!

Thank you for sharing your blog, seems to be useful information can’t wait to dig deep!
