Love this post. I just decided to create a two-line pitch, synopsis and beat sheet BEFORE I started writing my current gothic novel. It's a very different approach for me, but so far it feels kind of comforting.

Reading this in my pajamas is the best decision I’ve made in a while. :) Great post!

Love this. Writing is a creative endeavor, right? So why not give yourself the freedom to change, experiment, adapt?

Love it! A great reflection on our capacity for change. I’m also the same way as a Southerner — I’ve lived all over the world, but I cannot wear “warm pajamas” 🤣

LOL. Love this. I am the complete opposite than you. Ever since I was a little girl, I would wear a pyjamas to bed. I would do that in all climates except the really, really unbearable heat in the Italian summer, but even then, I have to wrap the oversheet to cover my tummy and back. I can't sleep without or I end up with a bad back, or with a cold. Yeah. even at 37^C. I can and will sleep with my feet out of the blankets, but not my core. That has to be covered all the time!

Funny how different people can be :D

I so love your antidotes and relationships to writing. It really resonates with me most days. But today especially true. I grew up in Florida. I moved to Colorado in 2019. I sleep in old tshirts and boy shorts. I still lay in bed for 10 minutes every night before realizing I need to put on socks. Now those socks live in my nightstand. It's progress. Baby steps. Where it works in bed time routines, so it works in writing. And where it works in writing, it also works in life.

OMG, this made me laugh in recognition. And, referring back to a previous post of yours, with the SNL Romano Tours skit, which also has been living in my head rent-free. "There’s a lot a vacation can do. Help you unwind. See some different looking squirrels. But it cannot fix deeper issues like how you behave in group settings or your general baseline mood. That’s a job for incremental lifestyle changes, sustained over time." That pretty much sums it up for me, Mr. Romano!

So true! Writing of all kinds can be very liberating. We can write what we like! We can wear what we like to bed! Anything is possible. Feels good.

lol. This speaks to me in the most direct way. The weather has finally turned & the heat in my new house has not been connected!

I loved that you shared your political opinion...but it jibes with mine, so maybe there's that. LOL. I WRITE in my PJ's every morning. And I AM revising that novel I pulled from your queue. I'll get it back to you, most likely in the new year. Trying not to let the old habits interfere with the revisions I knew I needed to make. As always, love your thoughts on the process. And...in never snows in NY any more? Bummer!

This drew me in, made me laugh, was a great start to my day, and I had to read it aloud to my fiancé because you remind me of my sister in law, who is always hot, so I’m sure she never wears warm pajamas. (I’m the opposite).

We are creatures of habit. Thank you for sharing these excellent tips for helping us get unstuck and get some words on the page.

As a southern exile and someone who has lived in Maine most of his life now, I can attest that layering is the way to go. That, and the occasional nightcap, both the actual cap and the drink. Your advice about writing is a timely one. I recently decided to switch my book from third to first person midway through as I was stuck and feeling like the main character was not “acting” right. It made a world of difference. Thanks for your post, and stay warm!
