Congrats Kate. If I had a book coming I would link link link : ) I'm kinda not kidding. I'd make it front and center at all times. I don't know how you feel about your 'stack but excerpts could be quite effective. One more thing: Libraries. This is a bit of a mystery to most and anything you share will be of great interest.

Oh when I have links, you won't be able to miss them. And I absolutely will run an excerpt here and/or somewhere else. I just have to finish the book first!

As an emerging debut author, I love dreaming up fantasy scenarios that incorporate my goals. For example: I want a collaborative agent who advocates for my career and novel. I want an office with a door, sunbeams for the cats, and a view of trees. I want to connect with readers, speak at conferences, and host workshops.

Your wants gave me concrete ideas for wants, and I’m borrowing a few of yours. But first, like you, I have to finish the book first! I want to finish my manuscript this July, send it to beta readers, and go on submission in September. 🌺♥️🌺

I’m grateful my publisher asked me the question about goals before my first book debuted. I had a mix of big ones and smaller ones. Listing the goals gave me a direction and I didn’t stress out about things because they were my goals. I’m coming up to a year since pub date and I’ve accomplished 75% of those goals. Book 2 just released and I developed goals for that one too.

Love the of having smaller concrete goals that eventually add up to the big, dreamy ones (or at least to something else that we may come to love once we reach it). Fantastic!

It’s a balancing act between fact and fiction being a publisher or an author. Good piece.

As a reader diving into this article, I appreciate how it sets clear expectations from the start—much like the strategic planning needed in Pokerogue! It's refreshing to find content that aligns insights with a touch of wit, just like the game itself. Looking forward to more reads that blend clarity with a hint of playful strategy.

Thank you, Kate. Setting precise goals are so important in life whatever the project because it gives you a direction and, for those who believe in it, it gives clear instructions to the Universe to set synchronicities on. In Quantum Physics, the observer plays a huge role in the state and behavior of the particule he is observing and I believe it is true about a book and its author, we have a role to play in the way we « observe » it, our enthousiasm, which can be very contagious, and tenacity around the project are crucial especially to achieve « unattainable » dreams. And trust that all that is happening is always in your best interest. Have faith. Lots of love.

That's a great list!

I'll add to it that I'd love to be sent to Paris to do a book tour like Evelyn Skye was ☺️
