That is not the case! You don't have to earn out to sell a second book. There is no specific sales threshold you have to meet to be able to sell your second book--it's different for every author, book, genre, and publisher. Your second book can be turned down because your first book didn't sell "well" but there's not specific number that equals "well." (I know. It's dumb.)
