Normally I glaze over when it comes to charts, but since they are about reading, I loved them! Thanks for this sneak peek into your reading habits. I usually get to 100 books a year, but this year it was 70. This is also the year I started writing and reading on substack, which I guess is about 30 books worth! 🤣 Will definitely be adding Write Through It to my TBR list for next year!
In 2024, there were many changes around me, from natural disasters to economic activities that affected many aspects of life. However, what we have is still having health and being able to live with our loved ones.
Oh, interesting! I’d never have thought of including my own manuscript in my list. Going to my spreadsheet now to add it. I think I read it three times, too.
Off to check out the bookriot spreadsheet which looks awesome and much better than mine-thanks for sharing. Happy 2025!
I love charts too!!!! My Master's thesis for my MFA had an entire appendix dedicated to graphs and I was so thrilled. It's part of the reason I switched over to The Storygraph permanently because graphs!!!!!
I'm curious how you track your books throughout the year. Do you keep an index card full of data on each one? Do you put their data into a spreadsheet? Or do you use Storygraph, Fable or some other reader's app? I read more this year than I have ever read before and because I am researching comp titles, I expect I will be reading more books in 2025 than I read this year. But I track in the most basic of ways and I probably should up my game on that. Do you follow Plantbasedbride on Youtube or IG? She keeps a gorgeous reading journal and tracks everything. Your data seems more helpful than hers but she wins in terms of artistry. lol.
I love that you read Beezus and Ramona. I loved them as a kid. The Editor is on my 2025 TBR. Is the Colony Club actually about the real-life Colony Club in NYC? I'll have to google that.
My top 3 reads for 2024 were, in order: The Collected Short Stories of Colette, translated by Matthew Ward; What is the Grass: Walt Whitman in My Life by poet Mark Doty; and Shakespeare the Man Who Paid the Rent by Dame Judi Dench. There were other great ones too. Only two things excite me about 2025: the chance of finding an agent and publisher, and my 2025 TBR. Cheers!
I just use a Google spreadsheet that I can update anywhere. I don't use Storygraph or similar b/c many of the manuscript I read are unpublished. But I am def going to check out this new spreadsheet Bookriot just posted! https://bookriot.com/introducing-the-2025-reading-log/
I love your end-of-year charts! I mostly track my reading through the photos I take to post on IG stories. I went back and counted them just now, and it looks like I read/listened to 79 books this year! That doesn't include books I read with my kids, so I know it's higher than that ... I just don't usually document those in the same way.
I feel like I'm a very busy person, balancing my own writing/podcasting career with teaching, but I don't really watch TV or movies much, so reading is still my primary escape at the end of the day!
Wow, this is so interesting. I can’t believe how many times you read your own book, I guess I need to read mine a few more times. Curious what format you read your own book in? Kindle?

A thrill to see a Year of Nothing on here! A delight to meet you for an iced latte this year. And gosh my inner geek LOVES these charts.

I am astounded anyone in the book industry has time for recreational reading. I include myself, but then I'm a freak : )

I mostly read it on my computer while editing in Word or Adobe. I’d have rather read it on my kindle!
