That's absolutely outstanding advice, Kate. Wish I'd had it thirty years ago. I continue to worry that all the emphasis on platforms and the "people you know" model, rather than a talent search model, continues to damage publishing. Here, I'm speaking as a reader, not just as a writer. At least it's nice to know that authenticity still matters.
Struggling in this area. As we all are! Funny thing though: I made a change - went for it - did something completely different. It might fail. So what, at least I did something on my terms. So be it. So it goes...
