Thanks. I learned a lot today. I'm waiting on feedback from my first six chapters. The beginnings are so hard, the rest of the book beta read over 20ish times and some loved my openings others didn't or thought it dragged. It's frustrating and costly and I am almost about to give up. I know you must have a post somewhere, but what do you expect to see in the first five or ten pages?
Hello! I don't think I do, because the first pages of every novel are going to be different, and if they all tried to do the same things, then they'd all be boring. But you do want to make sure you are giving the reader both enough information to understand the world and enough to be curious about the plot. I know that's easier said than done!
